HISTORY
The second born child of Andrew and Grace Nolan, Dahlia Nolan was raised in a life that was spectacular only in the fact that it was utterly mundane. Five years as the baby of the family before her next brother came along; suddenly the human embodiment of Sophomore Year and Tuesdays. Stella was the eldest and first born girl. Andy was the first born son. Kyle was the baby. Worthy of note only insofar as there was nothing noteworthy about her.
The Nolan's were fantastically typical. The Suburban Middle Class All American Dream. Bright and attractive parents who begot bright and attractive children. A work ethic that would make Weber proud. They got good grades, they made varsity teams, they crushed the SATs and got into good schools that promised good jobs.
But that Dahlia was a strange one.
Not cruel, but prone to bouts of aloofness. Often friendly, but sometimes perhaps a bit too enthusiastic when such a mood struck her. Seemingly unanchored by social connections in her typically cliquey high school. Known to wander off on bizarre tangents during conversations, especially while stoned but, strangely, even when completely sober. It wasn't so much that there was one particular thing that made her odd as much as there was no other word that summed her up quite as well. It might have been less noticeable if she wasn't one of the charismatic, optimistic, helpful Nolans.
Graduation came and Dahlia went. Out east where she was far from the boredom of Wisconsin suburbia but close enough to rely heavily on her older sister. Despite the occasional bout of jealousy, the two had always been close. They were the Nolan Girls, keepers of one another's secrets and providers of shoulders to cry on.
It was a surprise to no one when Dahlia decided to move to New York after college. What was surprising (incomprehensible, really) was that she seemed to have no idea what she wanted to do with herself once she got there. The Nolans were focused and ambitious, and most of their children had inherited this trait. Dahlia wasn't quite so lucky. Aimless and fickle. She took to taskrabbit and temp positions, building a resume largely based in administrative positions. The job she scored with Google in May of 2015 is her first as an actual employee. It's not quite the accomplished profession her parents had hoped for, but at least she seems to have a steady gig she hasn't bored of, yet.
